What is hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy, or HRT, is the use of bioidentical or pharmaceutical hormones to address symptoms caused by hormonal changes in your body. For most women we see, this means estrogen, progesterone, and sometimes a small dose of testosterone — to relieve symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

Common symptoms HRT may help with

Bioidentical vs. synthetic

Bioidentical hormones are molecularly identical to the hormones your body produces. Many of our protocols use compounded bioidentical formulations — creams, troches, or injectables — prepared by licensed compounding pharmacies and shipped directly to you.

Is HRT safe?

For most healthy women under appropriate clinical supervision, HRT is considered safe and effective. Like any medication, it carries risks that must be weighed against benefits in the context of your individual health history. That conversation is exactly what your video visit is for.

Who is not a good candidate?

HRT may not be appropriate if you have certain hormone-sensitive cancers, an active blood clotting disorder, uncontrolled high blood pressure, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, or active liver disease. We screen for these conditions during your intake. If telehealth is not the right path for you, we will tell you and refer you to in-person care.

A note on what we treat

We focus on bioidentical hormones for women's wellness — non-controlled medications. We do not prescribe controlled substances. If your situation needs a different specialty, we will help you find the right provider.

This page is educational and is not medical advice. Hormone therapy decisions are individualized and made with a licensed clinician after a synchronous video visit.
